Eneco buys CERs from China Carbon's project portfolio
Eneco and China Carbon sign an agreement on 6th October 2010 for the purchase of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) regarding a Waste Gas Based Electricity Generation Project located in Shaanxi Province, China. The project is developed by China Carbon, together with its partners, as a Clean Development Mechanism project under the Kyoto Protocol.

The project involves installation of two 240t/h gas-fired boilers, two 50MW condensing steam turbines and two 50MW generators, with the consumption of 10.75x108 Nm3 /y waste gas. The waste gas from the company's production process of semi-coke is fired to produce steam in two gas-fired boilers and subsequently used by two condensing steam turbines and generators to generate electricity. The project is estimated to achieve greenhouse gas emission reductions of about 428,167 tCO2e per year, by avoiding CO2 emission from the business-as-usual scenario electricity generated by those fossil fuel-fired power plants.
